When Parmigiani Fleurier introduced the TONDA PF collection, it was immediately clear that the brand was charting its own course within contemporary watchmaking. The collection prioritises what CEO Guido Terreni calls “private luxury”—a philosophy rooted in personal satisfaction and enduring quality. The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor, now offered in a new stainless steel and rose gold two-tone variant with a striking Stone Blue dial, shows how meticulous craftsmanship and considered material choices can redefine the modern luxury watch.
The dial commands attention immediately—a mineral-inspired blue that shifts from pale, luminous tones to deep navy as light and angle change. On the wrist, the watch presents a balanced presence, with the dial’s depth and the bracelet’s alternating finishes creating visual interest at every angle.

Heritage and Craft
Parmigiani Fleurier’s roots stretch back to the late 20th century, but its philosophy and aesthetic remain outside of passing trends. Michel Parmigiani’s vision was to create watches where every detail is intentional, a principle carried forward in every Tonda PF creation.
The two-tone model showcases the brand’s signature Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché dial, a textured motif inspired by historic watchmaking techniques. Artisans use engine-turning to create the pattern by hand, producing a surface that plays with light, enhancing depth and character. The same motif decorates the 22-carat rose gold micro-rotor within the automatic PF703 calibre, creating visual continuity between dial and movement. Complementing this is a knurled 950 platinum bezel and applied rose gold indices. The fully integrated bracelet includes a quick-release system, with hand-polished and satin-brushed links alternating in steel and rose gold, offering both visual contrast and tactile richness.

At the heart of the watch lies the automatic PF703 calibre, featuring the micro-rotor mentioned above. By integrating the rotor directly into the movement’s main plate, Parmigiani Fleurier achieves a case thickness of just 7.8 mm. This is remarkable for an automatic watch with a 48-hour power reserve. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and comprises 166 components, including 29 jewels, each finished to exacting standards. The movement features hand-applied Côtes de Genève, bevelled bridges, and perlage—finishes that exemplify the maison’s commitment to traditional haute horlogerie standards.

What sets this two-tone version apart is how the metals converse with one another. Rose gold flows from the bezel along the sides of the bracelet, softening the angularity of the stainless steel case and creating a fluid visual dialogue. Every line, every curve, is calibrated to enhance the watch’s proportion, producing a silhouette that is both modern and classical.
The Stone Blue dial required particular attention during development. Unlike applied lacquer finishes, the mineral-inspired surface involves layering techniques that build depth gradually, ensuring the colour shifts naturally rather than appearing flat or monochromatic. This attention to surface treatment extends to the bracelet, where each link undergoes separate finishing processes—polishing for rose gold sections, brushing for steel—before assembly. The integration between case and bracelet is engineered without visible gaps or transitions, a detail that becomes apparent only upon close inspection but contributes significantly to the timepiece’s cohesive appearance on the wrist.

The Long View
The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Stainless Steel & Rose Gold (ref. PFC914-2020020-200182) retails for CHF 42,000 (approximately £38,000 / $49,000). At 40 mm in diameter and just 7.8 mm thick, with 100 m water resistance, it offers an ideal balance of size, thickness, and capability.
Parmigiani Fleurier’s limited production volumes and independent status attract informed buyers seeking timepieces with strong horological credentials. As collectors increasingly gravitate toward pieces that reward close study, the Tonda PF—with its micro-rotor engineering and hand-finished details—represents a compelling proposition.
